Bibi Graetz Colore 2020

"You'll want to drink it now, and you probably should because it's so seductive." When US wine critics write about the Bibi Graetz Colore 2020, you can literally feel their enthusiasm, which they also express with 98 points for this Super Tuscan. Bibi Graetz himself is not stingy with superlatives: "I think that this year we have made the best Colore we have ever produced."

The pure Sangiovese from Tuscany comes from ancient vines whose grapes have an unmistakable aromatic depth. Monica Larner awarded the world-class Italian red wine 96 points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. "The Bibi Graetz 2020 Colore is a pure expression of Sangiovese, sourced entirely from old vines meticulously selected in different parts of Tuscany." The majority of the fruit comes from an elevated and cool site in Lamole or from 70-year-old vines in Bagno a Ripoli and Vincigliata near Fiesole. "A small percentage of old vines in Olmo is also used. Bibi has a preference for old vines, and you can taste the beautiful depth and complexity that comes through in the Colore."

The bouquet of the Colore 2020 is phenomenally complex. Where to begin, where to end? Beguiling notes of cherries and ripe strawberries characterize the bouquet, harmonizing wonderfully with notes of cedar wood, dried herbs, liquorice and mint. There is also a wonderful hint of vanilla.

On the palate, this Super Tuscan is dry, velvety soft, full-bodied, wonderfully fruity and at the same time light and dancing. "A wine with a perfect and lively tension, in which the power of the vintage dances harmoniously with the elegance of our vines," writes Bibi Graetz. Monica Larner judges that the mineral aromas and the light, clear acidity make the Colore an exceptional wine. Suckling: "Full-bodied, but not exaggerated, with tannins that are polished and show themselves over the entire length of the wine. It is dense, but has all the characteristics of a great wine." The finish of the Bibi Graetz Colore 2020 lingers for an almost unreal length of time.

The Sangiovese grapes were harvested up to eight times in each vineyard. This means that only grapes with the perfect degree of ripeness are used for the Colore. The wines from the individual vineyards matured separately in oak for almost 20 months before the team decided on the final blend. The best Colore ever? Lucky for those who can form their own opinion.

Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso Toscana 2020
The Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso 2020 is an outstanding red wine from Tuscany. You don't really need to say much more when you hear the name Bibi Graetz in the wine world. You can simply rely on getting a super Tuscan that makes international wine critics rave about it. It's no different with this single-varietal Sangiovese from the 2020 vintage. Nevertheless, let's take a closer look - so that the anticipation grows.Incidentally, Testamatta means something like "muddlehead". There seems to be a lot of irony in this name, because you can hardly create a wine in a more planned and meticulous way than the team around Bibi Graetz in the small town of Fiesole (in the north-east of Florence) does.Graetz himself shows no false modesty with his Testamatta Rosso 2020: "This is the highest level of perfection ever achieved," he writes. He particularly emphasizes the strawberry notes and vanilla aroma, as well as an incredible freshness.James Suckling awarded the wine 94 points and described the bouquet as follows: "Beautiful, fresh aromas of sour cherries, orange peel and lemon shrub." Notes of plum and freshly cut liquorice also enrich the complex bouquet. On the palate, the Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso 2020 is dry, highly aromatic and wonderfully fresh. Graetz attributes the freshness to the new vineyards in Olmo, where the grapes ripen on a "magical terroir" at an altitude of 420 meters. Monica Larner, who awards 95 points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, confirms this: "The introduction of these grapes (from an airy, high-altitude site) gives Testamatta its beautiful clarity, sharpness and sublime bouquet. The new Fiesole fruit makes up around 30 to 35% of this wine. The results are lively, transparent and fresh both in terms of acidity and aromatic intensity."Suckling finds these words for the palate: "Medium-bodied with firm, racy acidity and ultra-fine tannins that give the wine clarity and energy. It definitely follows the new wave of crisp, lively Sangiovese creations from Tuscany that emphasize drinkability and transparency. Lighter than past vintages."The grapes for the Italian red wine come from six different vineyards: Vincigliata, Olmo, Londa, Lamole, Montefili and Siena. The grapes were meticulously harvested eight times in the individual vineyards. The various components were matured in oak for 20 months. The result is the outstanding Testamatta Rosso 2020. No "muddlehead", but a lucky child who gets to enjoy a bottle of this Super Tuscan.

Bibi Graetz Colore 2018

Bibi Graetz Colore 2019
“Old-vine magic”-  The American wine critic James Suckling waxes lyrical when he writes about the 2019 Bibi Graetz Colore. And Suckling, who awards 99 points (!) for this single-varietal Sangiovese from Tuscany, is not alone in his rhapsodizing. Ninety-six points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 98 points in Falstaff: Italian winemaking has indisputably reached a pinnacle with the Bibi Graetz Colore 2019.  The red wine's bouquet seduces you with its fascinating complexity and intensity: notes of blackberries, raspberries, cherries, cassis, and dried rose petals, complemented by nuances of coriander and balsamic herbs. On the palate, the ruby Sangiovese is full-bodied and compact, with silky-soft tannins that could not be more harmoniously integrated. It has an impressive structure and length. Suckling writes, “So fine, yet so powerful. This is an incredible combination of fruit and structure. Old-vine magic. Old-vine magic.”Bibi Graetz himself writes, “Monumental, there is no better word to describe this vintage. Roundness in every single aspect of the wine: elegance, freshness and great acidity that gives very fine layers surprisingly detectable on the nose and at the first sip.”The effort behind this creation was extraordinary: the grapes came from three sites in Tuscany (Lamole, Vincigliata and Siena) with vines from the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s. The individual sites were harvested up to eight times in order to harvest grapes with the perfect degree of ripeness. This was followed by a further sorting of the grapes in the winery. The wines of the individual growing areas were vinified separately. The precise composition of the blend was decided only after the Sangiovese creations from the individual sites had matured in barriques for 20 months. Only the best barrels of the entire production were included in the Colore.Bibi Graetz is celebrating his 20th anniversary as a winemaker with the Colore 2019, and the design of the bottle is accordingly distinctive. This Sangiovese is one of the outstanding highlights bearing witness to the creative power of Bibi Gräetz. Happy are those who can call a bottle their own. Suckling’s recommendation: “Drink after 2026.”

Bibi Graetz Colore 2016
This Super Tuscan is a world-class ambassador for Tuscan viticulture in every respect. Not only does the quality of the Bibi Graetz Colore 2016 stand out and will captivate wine lovers. What's more, the grapes for this phenomenal composition come from three of Tuscany's defining growing regions: Lamole in Chianti Classico, Vincigliata near Florence and Siena in the south. The pinnacle of Tuscan winemaking, united in one wine: Bibi Graetz Colore 2016.This Italian red wine is a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo and 10% Colorino. The Colore sparkles ruby red with a garnet hue in the glass. The bouquet is fascinatingly complex. Notes of "pure summer cherry" dominate at the beginning, writes Monica Larner in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, awarding the Bibi Graetz Colore 2016 a whopping 96+ points. Over time, nuances of granite and dried blue flowers emerge. Notes of plums, blackberries and strawberries also enrich the bouquet. Everything is finely underpinned by a stimulating spiciness (rosemary, sage, but also cinnamon and a hint of leather and tobacco). On the palate, Bibi Graetz's Super Tuscan is dry, clear and perfectly smooth. "Full-bodied, very dense and polished, with a dense and powerful palate that opens up and grows while remaining agile and beautiful," says James Suckling, whose 98 points make it clear that few wines in the world come close to this quality. "This vintage offers an ideal dose of structure paired with freshness," says Monica Larner."After the great 2015 vintage, I couldn't believe that the quality of 2016 was even better," writes Bibi Graetz. As described, the grapes come from three vineyards in Tuscany, which were meticulously harvested (up to eight times!). In this way, the very best grape material was obtained, which forms the basis for the Colore 2016. The batches from the individual vineyards matured separately in oak for almost three years before the final blend was composed. A masterpiece of Italian viticulture.
