Danie de Wet ist ein Schwergewicht des südafrikanischen Weinbaus. Und das nicht nur aufgrund seiner Statur, sondern weil der Mann eine Vision hat und diese zu Weinen macht, die weltweit Beachtung finden.

Dabei hat Danie der jüngste Spross einer Winzerfamilie, die seit 1693 am Kap zuhause ist, kein Problem damit, gegen den Strom zu schwimmen. So holte er Anfang der 70er Jahre Chardonnay-Rebstöcke, die mit Einfuhrverbot und Quarantänevorschriften belegt waren, nach Südafrika und legte damit den Grundstein für eines der bedeutendsten Chardonnay-Häuser der Welt.

Die Weine von Danie de Wet haben im Laufe der Jahre alles gewonnen, was es zu gewinnen gibt. Von Goldmedaillen bei nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben bis zu regelmäßigen Höchstbewertungen im "John Platter", der Weinbibel am Kap der Guten Hoffnung.

Und dennoch bleibt Danie ruhelos. Sein neuester Coup ist eine Serie vom Premium Young Wines, die schon wenige Monate nach der Lese - mit großem Vergnügen zu genießen sind. Danie hat die drei Weine, denen er seinen Namen gab, nicht zu belanglosen Primeurs ausgebaut, sondern zu wunderbar fruchtigen, herrlich frischen und beeindruckend aromatischen Weinen, die rundum Spaß machen.

In der Nase zeigen sich schöne Aromen von Cassis, Pflaume, Zedernholz und Zigarrenschachtel. Im Unterton feine Kräuteraromen. Die Tannine sind schön integriert und haben eine zarte Struktur. Für eine 14-monatige Fasslagerung in zur Hälfte neuen französischen Eichenfässern ist der Delheim Cabernet Sauvignon am Gaumen ausgesprochen rund und mit großer Balance. This South African Cabernet Sauvignon is a wonderful entry to the world of wines from Diemersfontein. The Sonnenberg family winery is known primarily for its Pinotage creations, but also showcases its remarkable expertise in winemaking with this Cabernet Sauvignon. This red wine from the Wellington region offers aromas of black currants, sweet plums and cloves, complemented by wonderfully harmonious notes of dried herbs and vanillas as well as nuances of nuts and tar. On the palate, this South African red is elegant and magnificently aromatic, with fragrances of cherries and blueberries predominating. The Diemersfontein Cabernet Sauvignon has an excellent structure with noticeable tannins.It was aged for twelve months in second-fill oak barrels. Spier Signature Shiraz

Of all the plantet grapes in South Africa, the shiraz, or syrah, as the French call him, is without a doubt one of the most successful. It has everything to do with the ideal climate of the Cape for this grape. Warm but not too hot, with a good cooling in the afternoon, which seems a bit like the Rhone region, where this wonderful grape originated. By a short fermentation process at low temperature it gets a strong character, with delicious fruit. Two thirds of the wine then matures about six to eight months in a mix of French and American oak, which makes it well rounded and gets it some extra complexity. That is why wood and fruit remain so perfectly balanced.
