d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz

The South Australian “The Dead Arm Shiraz” from d'Arenberg is a remarkable wine in many ways. The bouquet is seductive, with earthy notes and flavors of dark fruit, fennel and spicy nuances. With time, notes of sweet berries and forest floor unfold. 18 months this exceptional Shiraz matured in French and American oak barrels. On the palate the wine from the famous growing region of McLaren Vale, 35 kilometres south of Adelaide, is dense and concentrated. Aromas of plum, blackberry, mulberry and black olives as well as hints of pepper and earthy notes give a wonderful taste experience. The tannins are integrated wonderfully. The wine has a looooong finish - a pleasure that never seems to end. Complex and hearty. Dead Arm is a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata that randomly affects vineyards all over the world. One half, or an ‘arm’ of the vine slowly becomes reduced to dead wood. d'Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz

The pretty nose is very floral with violets, lavender and rose water dancing with the more varietal purple fruits and a touch of cedar adds charming spice.The palate opens with varietal bravado and a mixture of red and purple fruits. Raspberry, blueberry and plum make way for a regional mocha character and an extra layer of complexity that includes graphite and roasted meats. It finishes with a cinnamon spicy lift and fresh, fine grain powdery tannins. Ripeness is well in check and the acid keeps the fresh and juicy palate focused.Before being renamed The Footbolt Shiraz in 1996, the Old Vine Shiraz (as it was then known) was the first wine to use the term ‘Old Vine’. When this became common practice it was altered to honour a racehorse that changed the Osborn family forever. The founder of d’Arenberg, Joseph Osborn was a successful racehorse owner and Footbolt was the pride of his stable. In 1912 he made the hard decision to sell his stable of horses to start d’Arenberg, so it is only fitting they pay homage to Joseph and his prize horse, Footbolt.

d'Arenberg The Olive Grove Chardonnay

The nose is aromatic and lifted with white flowers, tropical fruits, granny smith apples and white nectarine. The palate has considerable weight with a lovely mid palate of white peach, lime and a touch of brioche. There is zesty acidity that builds on the palate to a long savoury finish with a hint of cashew nut and faint, fine, textural tannins. The cool year shines through in the balanced delicate flavours from the McLaren Vale fruit.

d'Arenberg The Stump Jump Lightly Wooded Chardonnay

Wonderfully aromatic with white peaches and honeydew melon dominating the nose with a lovely dose of green apple freshness and a touch of spicy oak in the background. Nectarines join the party on the palate with limy acidity and a lovely custard like mouth feel. The oak is very subtle and provides the texture and a touch of supportive spice. Parcels of fruit are selected from our vineyards in the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale. Once they have been gently crushed, the grapes are basket pressed to softly extract the juice from the skins. 60% of the juice is partially or fully fermented in a mixture of older French and American oak to add a touch of spice and mouth feel. Once fermentation is complete the winemakers taste all batches to determine which will suit this gentle and fruity style of Chardonnay.Whether drinking on its own or with a fresh plate of seafood, salad or chicken you can’t go past this little gem.

THE WINEThe Stump Jump Red GSM has got a cracking nose with plum, dark cherry, game, earth and black pepper. The palate adds mulberry, raspberry with beautiful lifted spice and mineral grit. The fine, powdery, gritty tannins are fruit derived and lively, making for a long finish. There’s no shortage of flavour and it’s packed full of charm.

THE WINE The nose is wonderfully aromatic with vibrant tropical fruit, barley sugar and a hint of guava. The palate is equally fresh and lively with zesty citrus characters of lemon, lime and a touch of orange. The Mar-sanne and Roussanne play a bigger role here with lovely stone fruit and honey characters coming through.
