Bevor wir im Detail weiterschwärmen, ein paar Fakten zum Champagne Krug Vintage 2008 Brut:
Der Champagner ist eine Kreation aus 53% Pinot Noir (vornehmlich von Lagen in der Montagne de Reims wie Aÿ, Mareuil, Bouzy und Ambonnay), 25% Meunier und 22% Chardonnay. Die Macherinnen und Macher im Champagnerhaus Krug selbst nennen diese Kreation aus dem eher kühlen Jahrgang 2008 eine „klassische Schönheit“.  Das wunderschöne, präzise und harmonische Profil des Krug 2008 entwickelte sich nach 12 Jahren in den Krug-Kellern, wo der Champagner an Ausdruck, Harmonie und Finesse in nahezu unerschöpflichem Maß gewann.
Intensiv und brillant golden schimmert der Champagne Krug Vintage 2008 Brut im Glas. Das komplexe Bouquet dieses Ausnahme-Champagners umfasst intensive Noten von Honig, Lakritz, Menthol, Orangenschale und auch Grapefruit. Suckling urteilt: „Außergewöhnliche Frische mit Aromen von Feuerstein, Blumen, Mandeln und Zitronen. Auch Haselnuss und Erdbeere gibt es.“

Der Decanter, der von einer Supernova an Sinneseindrücken schreibt, schwärmt von Noten „von reifer schwarzer Johannisbeere, Mandarinenschale und gerösteter Nuss“, die durch Nuancen von kandiertem Ingwer, salziger Austernschale, Eisenkraut und gemahlenem Kardamomgewürz akzentuiert werden.

Am Gaumen ist der Champagne Krug Vintage 2008 Brut intensiv animierend, trocken und perfekt ausgewogen, mit fast unglaublicher Aromenvielfalt und -tiefe. Aromen von Quitten, kandierten Früchten und Zitrusfrüchten, gelber Kiwi, Sternfrucht, Honig, Apfelkuchen und Butterkeksen sowie Orangenschale, Pfingstrose und Fenchel werden von blumigen und Menthol-Tönen unterlegt.
„Der Gaumen hat ein langes, kraftvolles und geschmeidiges Gefühl mit sehr prägenden Zitrusaromen, die von einer langen Säure getragen werden. Ein perfekter 2008“, schreibt Suckling.

Genießen Sie dieses Champagner-Meisterwerk bei einer Trinktemperatur von 9 bis 12 Grad. Die Komposition des Champagnerhauses Krug, ansässig in Reims, passt wunderbar zu Tagliatelle mit Muscheln und Basilikum. Auch zu Blätterteig-Kreationen mit Pistazien und Käse eine sehr gute Wahl. Dieses Premium-Cuvée aus dem chilenischen Aconcagua Valley hat es in sich. Der 2016er Jahrgang dieses ursprünglich als Joint Venture von Robert Mondavi und Eduardo Chadwick gegründeten Weingutes dürfte zur Spitze der bislang produzierten Senas gehören. Die Assemblage besteht aus 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Carmenere und 5% Cabernet Franc. Die Beeren wurden mit der Hand gelesen und in Stahltanks vergoren. Der Rebsaft reifte anschließend für 22 Monate im französischen Eichenfass, davon 73% neues Holz. Chiles rote Ikone ist einer der facettenreichsten Weine dieses Planeten. Der 2016er Sena zeigt ein dunkles Rubin mit violetten Nuancen. Die Nase weiß durch dunkle Beerennoten, Schokolade, Tabak und Gewürze zu überzeugen. Der Gaumen ist fruchtig und breit, mit feinsten Tanninen und Röst- sowie Nougataromen und geht schließlich in ein nicht enden wollendes Finale über.

Seña is an icon of viticulture in South America. The Chilean red wine has fascinated international wine critics for many years. In Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Luis Gutiérrez has never awarded the Seña less than 96 points since 2015. James Suckling even awarded 100 points in 2015 and 2018 for the noble red wine, which has been backed by Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, two greats of the wine world, since 1995. The 2020 Seña vintage is also outstanding. The creation from the Aconcagua Valley was awarded 97 points by Gutiérrez and 98 by Suckling.The bouquet of the blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 15% Carmenere and 7% Petit Verdot is impressively complex. Notes of raspberries and cherries form the intensely fruity basis. They create a stimulating interplay with balsamic notes of cedar and tobacco as well as nuances of dill and rosemary, explains Francisco Baettig, the technical director of Seña.The wine "is subtle and multi-layered, not just fruit, but with more spice," Gutiérrez says of the 2020 vintage. Suckling's verdict: "Complex, with a spicy character, the nose shows tobacco, salty plums, olives, black cherries, cassis and a hint of white pepper, followed by a fine, spicy, balsamic accent."On the palate, the deep garnet-red Chilean blend is dry, dense and powerful, with masterfully integrated, polished tannins. The Seña 2020 has "very fine-grained tannins, plus freshness, acidity and tension. Very balanced in a rather warm vintage," says Baettig.Gutiérrez also writes of polished tannins and very well-integrated wood maturation after 22 months in barriques. According to the Spaniard, 78% new wood was used and 10% of the wine was aged in large Stockinger barrels, i.e. barrels from the world-renowned barrel maker from Austria.Seña's vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley, along the Aconcagua River, which flows from the Andes into the Pacific, offer the perfect terroir for perfect wines. Located on the eastern side of the coastal mountains, and thus shielded from the direct influence of the ocean, the growing area also benefits from a Mediterranean climate and the cooling effect of the world's oceans.
