Château Saint-Roch Kerbuccio

The Kerbuccio Château Saint-Roch is a fantastic wine, in which everything is right. This is the reason, why Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gives 90-93 points to the red wine from the growing area Roussillon, at the foot of the Pyrenees.

The blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre has a deep dark color. Aromas of plums, blueberries, lavender and violets characterize this wine. It is powerful, but at the same time also delightfully fresh, with velvet tannins and a fine mineral finish.

An outstanding, impressive wine with an almost unbelievable price-performance ratio.

Grenache grapes were harmoniously paired with about 10-20% Shiraz to create this wonderful cuvée from the province of Roussillon in the south of France. This wine was produced in the picturesque canton of La Vallée d’Agly near the little town of Maury, in which the tireless winemaker and owner of the estate, Jean-Marc Lafage, grew up and thus knows the terroir like the back of his hand. After he had taken over the vineyards in 2006, he created a wine from grapes that ripened on slate soils at an altitude of 140 metres. The sumptuous richness and warm texture of the Saint-Roch also result from Jean-Marc Lafage’s habit of waiting to harvest the grapes until they’ve reached maximum maturity, on the verge of being overripe. They are then picked by hand from 30-60-year-old vines, and the wine matures in tanks after a brief maceration. Subsequently, the Saint-Roch Roubials was aged for 11 months in 500-litre casks made of French oak, of which 20% were new barrels. It is thus no surprise that this wine from Southern France is vibrant and of great stature, and is often compared to Italian Amarone wines or the renowned Super Tuscans. The spicy and powerful Saint-Roche Roubials is a deep red in colour. On the nose, it is fresh and spicy, offering an abundance of fruit aromas such as black berries, liquorice, chocolate and plums. The wine is ample, inviting and juicy on the palate, showing a good, solid structure and a light sweetness. The finish is long, with soft and well-integrated tannins. The Saint-Roche Roubials is impressively full-bodied but not too strong. It is a perfect accompaniment to steaks, spicy meat loaf or grilled dishes. It is also a real insider’s tip to enjoy on a long winter evening in front of a fireplace.Robert Parker as well as the Wine Advocate award the Saint-Roch-Roubials 92 points (2016 vintage), whilst the 2017 vintage was awarded 92 points by Jeb Dunnuck.

Balanced on the palate and wonderfully refreshing.
