The Vinum magazine writes about this wine: “A spectacular combination of fullness, body and delicacy – a great Moselle Pinot Noir.” The Brauneberger Klostergarten Pinot Noir from the Markus Molitor estate has a nose redolent of Morello cherries, bilberries and blackberries, complemented by a fine herbal spice and delicate hints of noble wood and toasted notes. After all, this red wine from the Rhineland-Palatinate matured for 15 months in French barriques. On the palate, the ruby-red wine is tight, complex and wonderfully well-balanced. The noticeable tannins are nicely integrated and the finish shows a lovely minerality from the slate-dominated vineyards on the Central Moselle. The Brauneberger Klostergarten vineyard is divided into two steep and two moderately sloping parcels of land with fine crushed slate soil and a high stone content. These parcels of land are planted mainly with Pinot noir grapes of French origin. In den letzten Jahren haben sich einige Weingüter in der Moselregion einen guten Namen erarbeitet. Das Weingut Markus Molitor gehört bei den Mosel-Weingütern mittlerweile zu den Betrieben mit Weltniveau und steht an der Spitze Region. Die Mosel-Rieslinge und Spätburgunder sind herausragend. Es gibt wenige Weingüter, deren Produkte von Robert Parker einmal mit der Höchstpunktzahl von 100 Punkten bewertet wurden. Markus Molitor gehört dazu.

Im Alter von 20 Jahre übernahm Markus Molitor 1984 das gerade mal drei Hektar große Weingut in Wehlen bei Bernkastel an der Mosel von seinem Vater. Die Familie Molitor produziert Wein bereits in der achten Generation. Markus Molitor entwickelte das Weingut kontinuierlich und heute bewirtschaftet er mehr als 60 Hektar zwischen Traben-Trabach und Saarburg, die vorwiegend in Steillagen angelegt sind. Das Weingut Markus Molitor baut auf mehr als 20 hervorragenden Einzellagen an der Mosel und Saar vorwiegend Riesling an. Bekannt ist hier sicher der Name einer dieser exzellenten Steillagen, die weltberühmte Zeltinger Sonnenuhr. Manche dieser Lagen muten von außen halsbrecherisch an und haben sicher einen extremen Pflegeaufwand. Allerdings fangen diese Steillagen die Sonne wie einen Spiegel ein und nutzen jeden Sonnenstrahl. Die teilweise über 100 Jahre alten, wurzelechten Reben wachsen in den Steillagen auf Schieferböden und werden sorgsam gepflegt. Die Traubenlese erfolgt nach höchsten qualitativen Ansprüchen. Die Weine von Markus Molitor reichen von leichten, kraftvollen aber ausgewogenen Alltags-Weinen bis hin zu überaus fülligen und nachhaltigen Auslesen beispielsweise von der Zeltinger Sonnenuhr.

The Pinot noir grape variety is said to be the queen of the Ahr wine-growing region. This Pinot noir from the Rhineland-Palatinate matured for 17 months in both new and used barriques. The wine shows correspondingly fine and smoky notes that harmonize perfectly with the aromas of red berries such as strawberry and blackberry, cloves and wood, complemented by subtle hints of coffee. Great wines need great names. Thus, the name taken from Greek mythology is a good choice for the Hensel Icarus. The wine is made from the Cabernet Cubin grape variety. It is vinified only in vintages that produce extraordinary grapes. The grapes for this wine come from a new line created in 1970 by crossing the Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties. The Hensel estate has long experimented with this grape variety, so that some of the vines are more than 40 years old. Although this leads to low yields, the grapes are extremely powerful.The Hensel Ikarus is a shimmering deep purple in the glass and offers rich berry flavours. We recommend decanting the wine before drinking it as the wine needs some time to open up. After a breathing period, the wine offers aromas of ripe berries on the palate, along with intense notes of coffee and delicious nuances of tobacco.The athletic tannins reveal the Hensel Ikarus’ great potential. The Nussbaumer estate is located in Sella, a small village above Tramin. Vineyards here are planted between 350 - 550 meters on the slopes below the Roen mountains, an ideal position to benefit from fresh, drying wind that blows from Lake Garda during the entiregrowing season. The soil is made up of clay and gravel, with a limestone layer from 20 - 100 cm and porphyry subsoil.The grapes were harvested in small bins, then gently crushed and left to macerate with their juice for a brief period to capture the characteristic aromatics of Gewürztraminer.After pressing, the must is left to ferment at a controlled temperature (18-20°C) in stainless steel tanks.Nussbaumer has a long history of over 700 years of winegrowing, and it is one of the oldest estates in Tramin. Our selection of Gewürztraminer from this estate embodies all the characteristics of this variety: an intense, bright straw-yellow color, and notes of fragrant rose petals, cinnamon, ripe tropical fruits and carnations. The engaging aromas offer hints of spice that lift the lush palate.Food Pairing: Ideal as an aperitif, the wine is perfect with seafood, particularly Asian cuisine.
