Hensel und Gretel Cuvée Rotwein

The Hensel und Gretel Cuvée Rotwein (red wine) is another joint project realised by the wine-makers Thomas Hensel and Markus Schneider. The wine-makers from the Palatinate share not only a deep friendship, but their passion for creating great wines as well. Thus it’s no surprise that they collaborated in the creation of the Hensel and Gretel Rotwein (red wine), amongst others. Both of them are particularly fond of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety, which predominates in this red wine. The wine is a powerful deep red in the glass. On the nose, it is redolent of cocoa, vanilla, blackberries, cassis and dark cherries. The Hensel and Gretel Rotwein (red wine) is elegant and round on the palate, with wonderfully integrated tannins. The dry, boldly spicy wine has a fruity finish.

The versatile Hensel and Gretel Rotwein (red wine) is an ideal accompaniment to pizza, pasta and similar dishes. It is also lovely to enjoy on its own – ideal for a cosy evening at home.

Weingut Hensel

19 Crimes Red Wine „Behind Bars“
This Australian blend, consisting of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, is redolent of ripe red and dark berries, along with fine nuances of chocolate, vanilla and cedar. On the palate, the red wine from south-eastern Australia is full-bodied and round, with a very fine sweetness. Its finish is supple and fruity, showing a sustained freshness. The wines of the 19 Crimes line recall people convicted of crimes in Britain who were exiled to Australia beginning in the late 18th century. In many cases, those who survived the journey across the seas built a new life there, thus becoming part of a newly emerging country.

Hensel Aufwind Grauburgunder
Thomas Hensel is one of 20 wineries in Bad Dürkheim. His 17-hectare vineyard is located next to the local "airport" (airfield). Thomas is 35 years young, ambitious, energetic and courageous enough to be innovative. Classic Burgundy with notes of fresh leaves, hazelnuts and a hint of vanilla. By a subtle use of oak barrels the wine gains in complexity and flavor, without losing its freshness and unique character. On the palate it is dynamic and fresh with very lean structure.

Hensel Aufwind Cabernet-Merlot Rosé
The Hensel Aufwind Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Rosé is a vivid garnet-red in colour. The wine’s intense colour reflects its expressive fragrances. Initially, the wine is redolent of strawberries and raspberries. The bouquet is subsequently enriched by notes of red bell peppers and hints of vanilla, along with nuances of slightly spicy herbs. On the palate, the wine is complex and powerful, almost reminiscent of a red wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine a fine tannin structure and a lush body, while the Merlot provides lovely fruity notes and gives the Aufwind Rosé a wonderful harmony. This wine is therefore an ideal accompaniment to summer barbecue, as well as a warming delight to enjoy on its own in autumn and winter.

Hensel Höhenflug Merlot
The Merlot grape is one of the most popular grape varieties ever and is cultivated almost all over the world. It is, however, very difficult to make a top-quality wine from these grapes. With its Höhenflug Merlot, the Hensel winery succeeded in this. The grapes for this wine are harvested as late as possible to capture the last rays of sunshine of the year, resulting in a very concentrated wine that is an intense cherry-red in colour. The wine has a wonderful bouquet offering fragrances of ripe morello cherries and bilberries, complemented by nuances of elder and slightly smoky notes. On the palate, the Hensel Höhenflug Merlot shows lots of melt and an exotic spice. This Merlot was aged in new barriques, giving the wine noticeable but soft tannins, richness and powerful body. This is a red wine from the Palatinate to fall in love with.Try the Hensel Höhenflug Merlot with duck breast or fried chicken. It is also an ideal accompaniment to various cheeses.

The wine is redolent of allspice and hot black pepper, along with notes of sour cherries and dried foliage. The Höhenflug Cuvée Rotwein (red wine) was aged in heavily toasted wooden casks, giving the wine a fine note of wood enveloped in cassis, elder and blackberries. On the palate, the wine is incredibly multi-layered and complex.Despite its power, the Höhenflug Cuvée is wonderfully balanced. Its finish is characterised by aromas of tobacco and vanilla. After decanting, the wine can already be enjoyed now but several years of ageing in the bottle will further enhance its qualities. The red wine is extremely powerful. It goes beautifully with pasta or lasagne with hearty meat sauces and is an ideal accompaniment to barbecue, steaks and game dishes. It is also lovely to enjoy with a piece of good Morbier cheese.
