The Donnafugata La Fuga Contessa Entellina is refreshingly redolent of pineapple, citrus fruit and nuances of thyme. On the palate, this Sicilian white wine from vineyards of the Contessa Entellina estate is intensively mineral, with a lovely acidity.

This pure varietal Chardonnay of Sicilian nature fascinates with its fresh vividness and is ideal for carefree enjoyment. It goes beautifully with crustaceans, savoury first courses and various tuna dishes.

Donnafugata

Seit mehr als 160 Jahren wird auf dem Weingut Donnafugata auf Sizilien Wein hergestellt. Die 1851 errichteten Kellereien bestechen heute mit modernster Technologie. 1983 übernahmen Giacomo Rallo und seine Frau Gabriella das Weingut, das in den historischen Familienkellereien in Marsala und in den Weinbergen von Contessa Entellina, im Herzen des westlichen Siziliens, beheimatet ist. Einige Jahre später begann Giacomo Rallo auch auf der Insel Pantelleria Wein anzubauen. Heute unterstützen die Söhne José und Antonio Rallo ihre Eltern im Familienbetrieb. Auf ungefähr 330 Hektar produziert Donnafugata jährlich 2.500.000 Flaschen Wein.

Der Name Donnafugata hat einen geschichtlichen Hintergrund. Wörtlich übersetzt heißt es 'Frau auf der Flucht' und die Geschichte führt in die Anfänge des 19. Jahrhunderts, als Königin Maria Karolina, Gemahlin von Ferdinand IV. von Bourbon, beim Einmarsch der napoleonischen Truppen vom Hof in Neapel nach Sizilien in den Palast von Santa Margherita Belice flüchtete. Der Schriftsteller Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa griff in seinem Roman 'Der Leopard' die Bezeichnung Donnafugata auf und gab dem Palast und den Ländereien des Fürsten von Salina, wo sich heute die firmeneigenen Weinberge befinden, diesen Namen. Diese Episode ist der Grund, warum das Bildnis des Frauenkopfs mit windverwehten Haaren alle Flaschen von Donnafugata ziert.

The grapes come from vineyards planted in calcareous clay and gravel soils between 240 and 500 meters in the areas Ora, Tramin and Egna.The grapes were gently pressed immediately following harvest. Primary fermentation occurred in steel tanks, followed by partial malolactic fermentation.Tasting NotesChardonnay is popular and much-loved variety. This white wine is made of Grillo, a grape variety typical of Sicily. It is redolent of fruit with light flesh, particularly peaches, along with wonderfully stimulating notes of fresh wildflowers and newly cut grass. On the palate, the wine is amazingly soft and pleasantly balanced.The Donnafugata Sur Sur Grillo DOC comes from vineyards located in the south-west of Sicily, in the hilly hinterland between Marsala and Salemi. Above-average temperatures in July favoured the grapes’ ripening process. The differences in temperature between day and night led to an outstanding aromatic intensity of the grapes.Grillo is an autochthonous Sicilian grape variety, but ‘Grillo’ (the cricket) is also a small animal that brings good luck. The name ‘sur’ means ‘cricket’ and comes from the classical Arabic once spoken in Sicily.
