Orma Toscana Rosso IGT 2020

The 2020 vintage of Orma Toscana Rosso is another red wine from Tuscany that has been showered with praise by international wine critics. The Super Tuscan from the Sette Ponti winery easily clears the high 90-point hurdle in the wine ratings year after year. For the 2020 vintage of Orma, it received 94 points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 97 points from James Suckling and 96 points in Falstaff, among others.

The Supertuscan is a blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. The bouquet of the dark ruby-red Orma is simply fantastically multi-faceted. Monica Larner writes in the Wine Advocate of notes of "wild plum, blackberry jam, dark spices and dried tobacco". Suckling judges: "Tobacco, sage and rosemary come into their own, along with red currants and cassis", while Falstaff chooses these words: "Intense nose with notes of cloves, some mint, fine blackberry, slightly earthy components in the background."

On the palate, the Italian red wine from Sette Ponti, located around 65 kilometers south-east of Florence, is dry and incredibly dense and powerful, with masterfully integrated tannins and exceptional roundness. "Full-bodied and yet polished, with a solid and dense mid-palate," is Suckling's verdict and Falstaff's praise: "Spreads out beautifully on the palate, has lots of fine, hearty tannins, beautiful juiciness, crisp fruit and a long finish."

After tasting the Orma Toscana Rosso 2020, Monica Larner recommends: "A wine of this depth and magnitude is best served with a classic T-bone cut bistecca alla Fiorentina."

If you are lucky enough to be able to open one of the limited-edition Super Tuscans, you should enjoy the Orma 2020 at a drinking temperature of 15 to 18 degrees. Aged for 14 months in barriques, this red wine from Tuscany is an outstanding drinking pleasure until 2042. Enjoy it to the full!

Orma Toscana Rosso IGT 2019

Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso Toscana 2019
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awards 94 points and high praise to the Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso Toscana 2019 as “a pure expression of Sangiovese” in its accolade to this fantastic Tuscan red wine, which is also celebrated by other wine critics around the globe. James Suckling awards it 97 points, followed by Falstaff with 95. Connoisseurs can look forward to a fascinatingly complex and intense bouquet. Suckling writes of a “very attractive combination of dried fruit and spices with black cherries and plums. Aromas of flowers and sandalwood, too.”  The Wine Advocate detects “perfumed blue flower, candied orange peel, wet earth and plummy black fruit.” On the palate, the Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso Toscana 2019 is full-bodied, simultaneously powerful and elegant. The velvety tannins are wonderfully integrated and intertwined with the intense fruit, resulting in an exceptional taste experience. Moreover, according to the Wine Advocate, “a strong chalky mineral signature” characterises the looong finish. Bibi Graetz himself wrote, “Elegance, that is the word that describes Testamatta 2019,” adding that “Testamatta 2019 is perfectly balanced with deep layers that show incredible complexity."The grapes for the single-varietal Sangiovese come from the five best vineyards of the Testamatta estate in Tuscany: Vincigliata, Londa, Lamole, Montefili and Siena. The vines are up to 80 years old. The staff involved in producing the Bibi Graetz Testamatta undertake up to eight (!) harvesting phases. Only grapes of optimal ripeness are used in this shimmering, deep ruby red wine. The wines from the individual vineyards were aged in oak casks for 20 months. Graetz wrote, “The 20th anniversary of Testamatta is a real milestone, the pinnacle of quality that I have been looking for in my Sangiovese since the first vintage in 2000.” Those who open a bottle of the Testamatta 2019 are fortunate to be able to share in it.

Argentiera Bolgheri Superiore
The Maremma is a characterful landscape in central Italy, which is also known for its excellent wines. Argentiera Bolgheri Superiore from Tenuta Argentiera has a bright ruby red color with violet hues. On the palate, notes of licorice and black currants. This generous, complex wine - consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc - is rich in tannins. It has a wonderful balance with a pleasant acidity. The finish is long lasting - with a remarkable freshness and minerality. The harvested grapes come from the best vineyards of the estate. The grapes were vinified separately; fermentation and maceration took about 25 to 30 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then transferred to 225-liter French oak barriques, where its malolactic fermentation was completetd. The further maturation was about 14 months in oak barrels and then at least another 12 months on the bottle.Tenuta Argentiera is located on the picturesque coast of the Northern Maremma, about 100 km southwest of Florence.
