The Ripanco VR was pressed at José Maria da Fonsecas’ winery in Alentejo, Portugal. The Shiraz, Alicante Bouschet, Argonez and Trincadeira grape varieties unite here to create this dry red wine. To the Ripanco, José Maria da Fonsecas used an ancient, traditional production method. The grapes were slightly crushed by foot and subsequently carefully destemmed using a kind of washboard, making the wine soft and very drinkable.
After the grapes were pressed and destemmed, the juice was aged for 6 months in new French and American oak casks. This special cuvée is a deep ruby-red in the glass. On the nose, it offers wonderful aromas of cigar smoke, chocolate and dried figs. On the palate, the wine offers notes of cigar tobacco, with fresh, round tannins. The José Maria da Fonseca Ripanco VR has an impressive, medium-length finish.
Serve this surprising red wine well-chilled at 16-18 °C (60.8-64.4 °F) with red meat or various cheeses.
