This LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) from the Niepoort estate has a wonderfully stimulating bouquet offering notes of red and black fruit, particularly of cherries. The bouquet is complemented by very harmonious nuances of pepper and subtle hints of dark chocolate. The Niepoort Late Bottled Vintage is full-bodied and simultaneously supple on the palate, with noticeable but very well-integrated tannins. The port wine shows an impressive freshness, a good acidity and a subliminal, mild sweetness.

This deep ruby-red blend, consisting of grape varieties such as Sousão, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cão, Tinta Francisca and Tinta Roriz, matured for 4 years in large wooden casks, resulting in a fine taste experience that goes beautifully with tangy hard cheeses, pepper steaks or biscuits and cakes as well.

Portugiesische Weine, Portwein und der Hang nach Perfektion – das sind Attribute, die dem Weingut Niepoort gerecht werden. Vor 200 Jahren gegründet, befindet sich das Weingut mit niederländischen Wurzeln, heute noch in Familienbesitz und die neue Generation der Winzerfamilie führt das traditionsreiche Weinbauunternehmen fort. Portwein, die einstige Grundlage der Gründer, spielt nach wie vor eine bedeutende Rolle im Hause Niepoort.

Das Weingut liegt in der geschichtsträchtigen Weinbauregion Douro, in der seit mehr als 2000 Jahren Wein angebaut wird und die seit 2001 zum UNESCO Kulturerbe gehört. Hier werden ausschließlich die alten, bewährten Weinsorten angebaut, die sich mit den geologischen und klimatischen Eigenheiten der Region optimal ergänzen. Bereichert sind diese angestammten Anbaugebiete durch neu erworbene Flächen aus dem Gebiet von Cima Corga. Hier reifen die Trauben der legendären Portweine, aus den Kellern des Weinguts Niepoort. Zu den interessantesten Portweinen gehören zweifelsfrei die Sorten Ruby und Tawny. Der Ruby reift für etwa drei Jahre im Barrique, wogegen der Tawny ein wenig länger in kleinen Portwein-Pipes schlummert und dort seine elegant, liebliche Note erlangt. In Kennerkreisen kommt man schon lange nicht mehr an diesen Niepoort-Spezialitäten vorbei. Der Ruby überzeugt mit seinem intensiven und komplexen Charakter, der fruchtige Noten von dunklen, reifen Kirschen wiedergibt und an vollreife, duftschwangere Früchte erinnert. Des Rubys Parade Disziplin ist es, mit seiner lieblichen Art und nussigen Aromen jedes Dessert zu bereichern und abzurunden.

Die Arbeit in den Weinkellern untersteht der Familie und ist von Geheimnissen umgeben, die den großen, internationalen Erfolg des portugiesischen Familienunternehmens sichert. The deep red Niepoort Ruby Port is fresh, young and fruity on the nose. Its bouquet is characterised by notes of dark fruit (cherries). On the palate, the wine is fruity, showing good extracts, a lovely balance and fine mineral nuances as well. The Niepoort Ruby Port is a young and pleasantly drinkable wine.The grapes come from vines that are more than 30 years old. They grow in low-yield vineyards in the Cima Corgo region, the core of the Douro Valley. The grapes are pressed mainly in ‘lagares’. These are large, low fermentation basins made of granite, concrete or stainless steel. Finally, the wines mature for about three years in large wooden casks in the Niepoort wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia.The Niepoort Ruby Port can be stored without any problems for many years while retaining full quality.
