The Alto Rouge consists of 5 grape varieties: Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The grapes for this wine come from north- and northwest-facing vineyards located on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains. Thus, the vines are cooled by a fresh breeze in the afternoon, supporting the wine’s elegance and balance. The Alto Rouge is a deep ruby-red in the glass. On the nose, aromas of red fruit are predominant, along with hints of chocolate and light notes of woodchips. This cuvée is distinguished by its soft tannins and wonderful fruit aromas. Overall, this is a wine with style, lots of complexity and a high ageing potential. Winemaker Bertho van de Westhuizen recommends enjoying the Alto Rouge with game birds and tender red meat.

Lionel Dickens als Winemaker steht hinter diesem Projekt. Als südafrikanisches Kind der Weinbranche hatte er schon immer eine Leidenschaft für Natur und Landschaft seines Landes. Nachdem er viele Jahre in verschiedenen Bereichen der Weinindustrie gearbeitet hat, hat Lionel Dickens damit begonnen, im Weinkeller ein neues Kapitel zu schreiben. Seine Weine sind von der klassischen Tradition inspiriert – mit minimalem Eingriff hergestellt, um Ausgewogenheit, Eleganz und vor allem eine interessante Herkunftsgeschichte widerzuspiegeln.Für uns sind die Weine von Dickens „die“ Entdeckung des Jahres 2023 aus Südafrika.Der Dickens Tale of Three Wines besteht zu 98% aus Shiraz und zu jeweils 1% aus Mouverdre und Viognier. Die Trauben stammen zu 99% aus der südafrikanischen Region Franschhoek. Diese mehrdimensionale und komplexe rote Mischung zeigt vielschichtige Aromen von roten Beerenfrüchten, Veilchen und Gewürzen. Am Gaumen verbinden sich die Aromen von Beeren und Veilchen mit weichen, kalkhaltigen Tanninen zu einem konzentrierten und vollmundigen Wein. Der Wein reifte 18 Monate in französischen Eichenfässern.Der Dickens Tale of Three Wines kann sowohl pur als auch als Essensbegleiter genossen werden. Probieren Sie diesen Rotwein zum Beispiel zu gegrilltem rotem Fleisch und Wildgerichten.

Die früher nur zurückhaltend verwendete Traube Negroamaro findet hier die ideale Umgebung, um sortenrein hervorragende Weine hervorzubringen.Der charakteristische Duft nach roten Früchten und Johannisbeeren bereitet mit einer zarten Kräuternote sehr vielversprechend auf den ersten Schluck vor. Dieser ist weich, körperreich und mit einem Anklang an Schokolade fein akzentuiert. Die Tannine sind trotz ihrer starken Präsenz sehr angenehm. Auch der Nachklang kann durch ein langes Finale überzeugen.Die Rasse dieses Weines entfaltet sich am besten bei 16 bis 18 °C. Reichen Sie dazu gut gewürzte Vorspeisenplatten aus italienischen Köstlichkeiten, oder gönnen Sie sich elegante Fleischgerichte mit rustikalem Einschlag. Käse ist ein besonders überzeugender Begleiter, sobald er eine mittlere bis starke Reife erreicht hat.
