The desert-wine "Delheim Spatzendreck" is legendary. For more than 50 years there is this fine creation from South Africa. In the current vintage Delheim gave the product again a very special touch. Most of its predecessors, including the 2012 vintage, were Late Harvest wines made from 100% Chenin blanc grapes. Now it is a blend of Muscat d 'Frontignan, Weißer Riesling and Chenin Blanc. The wine has a pale straw yellow color. On the nose it offers aromas of orange blossom, apricot and citrus notes. On the palate, notes of ripe summer fruits and orange unfold. 9 months the wine was aged in oak barrels. Therefore a fine flavor and velvety tannins characterize the Spatzendreck.

Try a very special creation of South African viticultural arts that originates from vines that are older than 25 years.

Das Weingut Delheim liegt hoch auf den südlichen Hängen des Simonsbergs in Südafrika. Seinen Ursprung hat das Weingut auf einer Farm, auf der anfangs nur Obstbäume und Krüppelholz wuchsen. Sie wird bereits im Jahre 1699 erstmalig in der Geschichte erwähnt; damals noch unter dem Namen Drie Sprong.

Im Jahr 1938 kaufte der Deutsche Hans Hoheisen die Farm als Altersruhesitz für sich und seine Frau Deli. Nach seiner Frau benannte er auch die Farm: Delheim – Deli’s Heim. 1940 begannen die Hoheisens auf Anraten von Freunden Weinstöcke anzupflanzen. Hoheisens Neffe Michael Sperling unterstützte seinen Onkel seit 1951 und übernahm 1957 das Weingut komplett. Michael Sperling genannt „Spatz“ führte das Weingut zu weltweitem Ruhm. Es zählt heute zu den renommiertesten Weingütern in der Region Stellenbosch und ist auch in Deutschland ein Begriff. Hier werden Weine mit beständig hoher Qualität und ungewöhnlichen Namen hervorgebracht. Inzwischen sorgt mit Viktor und Nora Sperling die Generation nach „Spatz“ dafür, dass die Delheim-Weine weiterhin erstklassig sind.

Wichtigste Strategie von Delheim Wines ist die gleichbleibend hohe Qualität der Weine. 5 Sterne von John Platter, 92 Punkte vom britischen Wine Magazine für den Vera Cruz Shiraz, und der Delheim Sauvignon Blanc 2001 gelangte in die Auswahl für die 100 Topweine auf der Sydney International Wine Competition. Auch die Cabernet Sauvignons werden stets wärmstens empfohlen.

Delheim Chenin Blanc has a fresh colour with a green tint. The wine shows complexity from the natural fermentation with an array of flavours. Grapefruit, orange and white peaches on the nose with subtle savoury and oak flavours. The refined and elegant palate shows restraint, with lengthy tannins and sweet fruit that will complement a variety of dishes. The grapes were handpicked, followed by crushing, de-stemming and gentle pressing. Only two thirds of the juice was settled with enzymes; the balance was taken directly to barrel for fermentation. One third of the blend was fermented cold in concrete tanks, the other two thirds in barrel. Only natural fermentation took place. The wine in the concrete tanks spent 7 months on the lees with the balance aging in French oak barrels for 7 months. A combination of 225 and 500L barrels were used of which 20% were new.Suitable for vegans.

Delheim Gewürztraminer offers aromas of orange blossom, Turkish Delight and litchi, backed by some zesty citrus notes. These flavours follow through on the palate.The grapes were handpicked, de-stemmed and only lightly pressed. The juice was settled overnight, then racked and inoculated with a selected yeast strain. Fermentation was done at low temperatures. The wine spent four months on the lees, after which it was lightly fined and sterile filtered.Enjoy this 100% Gewürztraminer now. It will also age well for five to six years after vintage.

Für eine 14-monatige Fasslagerung in zur Hälfte neuen französischen Eichenfässern ist der Delheim Cabernet Sauvignon am Gaumen ausgesprochen rund und mit großer Balance. Blackberry and plum aromas, backed by undertones of dark chocolate and vanilla. The wine is elegant and lingers on the palate.Fermentation with selected yeast strains. Temperature was maintained at 25-28°C. Pump-overs were conducted 4 times a day until fermented dry. The wine was matured for 13 months in French oak, and then bottled with a screw cap.
