The Driehoek vineyards in the Cederberg mountains in South Africa cover an area of just over 12 acres – small, but with the very best terroir. Since production on their own is not worthwhile, the Du Toit family who owns the farm has engaged a winemaker who is renowned far beyond South Africa: their neighbour David Niewoudt, who runs the Cederberg estate. The result is literally a fruitful cooperation: the best terroir combined with the highest art of viticulture. The Driehoek Cederberg Shiraz is a shining example of this.
On the nose, the red wine offers attractive fruit aromas such as black cherries and black currants along with sweet notes of vanilla, as well as fine nuances of black pepper and cloves. On the palate, the wine shows liquorice-like tannins and a fresh acidity. The Driehoek Cederberg Shiraz was aged for 15 months in oak casks, giving the wine complexity and length. This Shiraz is elegant and silky. Its finish is accompanied by hints of smoke and paprika.
The Driehoek Cederberg Shiraz goes beautifully with aged sirloin steaks, game or oxtail soup.
