The Lanzerac Le Général is a so-called Bordeaux blend, which could be assigned to the left bank in Bordeaux, i.e. the Médoc region. This style is based on the classic blending of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot varieties. The grapes for this wine come from the estate’s best vineyards located in the Jonkershoek valley in Stellenbosch. The wine matured for 20 months in first- and second-fill French oak casks. Initially, this full-bodied blend offers aromas of vanilla and nutmeg. Subsequently, it pampers the palate with a flood of notes of dark berries, cooked plums and black currants. The palate is complemented by nuances of dark chocolate and hints of smoke, underpinned by powerful, soft tannins and a never-ending finish. The vintage can already be enjoyed now. We recommend decanting the wine before drinking it. Ennjoy the Lanzerac Le General with braised saddle of lamb with fennel and orange or with white chocolate mousse with cherries.

Lanzerac Wine Estate

Das Weingut Lanzerac Wine Estate ist als Perle unter den südafrikanischen Weingütern bekannt. Im schönen Jonkershoek Tal, am Standrand von Stellenbosch gelegen, blickt das Weingut auf eine lange Historie zurück. Bereits im Jahre 1692 wurde die Farm von Isaac Schrijver gegründet und zunächst unter dem Namen Schoongezicht, was wundervolle Aussicht bedeutet, geführt. Damit ist Lanzerac Wine Estate das drittälteste Weingut in Stellenbosch. Der erste Keller wurde um 1800 erbaut, gefolgt im Jahre 1830 von einem Herrenhaus im typischen kapholländischem Stil.

Im Jahr 1920 kam es dann zu einer großen Veränderung. Das Anwesen wurde von Elizabeth Catherina „Kitty“ English gekauft und in Lanzerac umbenannt. Mrs. English erfüllte sich damit einen Lebenstraum und investierte in den folgenden Jahren sehr viel Geld in das Weingut. Dies legte den Grundstein für eines der modernsten Weingüter am Kap. In der Folge kam es zu mehreren Besitzerwechseln. Alle neuen Eigentümer investierten glücklicherweise weiter in das Weingut. Sodass heute nicht nur Wein auf hohem Standard produziert wird, sondern auch ein 5-Sterne Hotel mit Restaurant und Spa-Bereich entstand.

Sollten Sie also einmal in Südafrika weilen, ist der Besuch von Lanzerac Wine Estate auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung wert.

The renowned German winemaker Bernd Philippi created the Mont du Toit Le Sommet. This blend from South Africa definitely ranks among the South African top red wines. The bouquet of this outstanding blend unites notes of black currants, sour cherries and milk chocolate, along with fine nuances of mint and nutmeg. Initially, the wine once again offers aromas of sour cherries and plums on the palate. This fruitiness is complemented by a velvety elegance and depth, while the noticeable tannins are well-integrated. The individual grape varieties were aged separately and matured for 12 months in oak casks, after which the blend was aged for a further 11 months. The selection of the grapes for this fascinating ruby-red wine was carried out with the utmost care. This assemblage is a good accompaniment to beef or lamb.

Der Rust en Vrede Estate ist ein Cuvee aus den Rebsorten Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah und Merlot. Der dominierende Cabernet gibt dem Wein herrliche Noten von schwarzer Johannisbeere und weiteren dunklen Früchten wie Heidelbeere. Der Syrah sorgt für eine schöne Würze mit erdigen Aromen. Der Merlot steuert sanfte florale Aromen von Veilchen und Jasmin bei. Eine Kombination, die am Gaumen wirklich Spaß macht. Die Farbe ist purpurrot und in der Nase finden sich Noten von frischem Leder, Tabak, Maulbeeren und Waldboden wieder. Der langanhaltende Abgang wird durch samtig weiche Tannine bestimmt.Der Rust en Vrede Estate reifte 18 Monate in 100% französischen Fässern, die mittelstark getoastet waren. Dadurch erhält der Wein einen schönen runden Körper und eine feste Struktur. Die moderate Säure balanciert die Trockenheit wunderbar aus.Ergänzend zu Wildgerichten aller Art ein wirklicher Genuss.

Wenn man einen der absoluten Spitzenweine aus Südafrika probieren möchte, kommt man am De Toren Fusion V nicht vorbei. Die V steht dabei für die 5 im Wein verwendeten Bordeaux Rebsorten. Die Qualität lässt sich mit den großen Weinen aus dem Bordeaux durchaus messen. Nach der Handlese und Selektion der Trauben schloss sich eine lange schonende Gärung an. Die Reifung fand über einen Zeitraum von 12 Monaten in zu 50% neuen und 50% Fässern zweiter Füllung statt. Dabei kamen Fässer von 225 Litern Größe zum Einsatz. (90% französische und 10% amerikanische) Im Glas ein klares Violett mit leichtem Funkeln. Die Nase ist geprägt von Blaubeere, Zeder, Schwarzkirsche, Bitterschokolade und einem Hauch Fennel. Am Gaumen offeriert der De Toren Fusion V eine seidige Fülle mit einem Hauch süßer Frucht. Das Gesamtpaket aus wohl integrierten Tanninen, lang anhaltender Tiefe, fester Struktur und Mineralität machen diesen Wein zu einem Spitzenprodukt.

The grapes for the Lanzerac Pinotage come from vineyards that are located between 400 and 420 metres above sea level. The prevailing wind cools the grapes in hot summers. The soils consist mainly of decomposed granite, enhancing the vines’ deep growth and improving water retention in the soil. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks with regular pumping over, the Lanzerac Pinotage matured for 15 months in first-, second- and third-fill oak casks.At this point, the optimal integration between fruit and wood was completed, resulting in a wine of excellent colour with fragrances of ripe berries and plums. On the palate, the Lanzerac Pinotage is velvety, dense, full-bodied and complex, showing a lovely balance. The grapes for Lanzerac Merlot come from vineyards located in the Jonkershoek Valley near Stellenbosch. These vineyards are divided into four different parcels of land with vines that are between 9 and 17 years old, covering an area of 20.31 acres. This terroir consists of deep red, decomposed granite soils and is located between 125 and 400 metres above sea level. After arrival in the cellar, the grapes were selected by hand and destemmed. Before they were gently pressed, the loose grapes underwent a second selection by hand. Subsequently, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks with pumping over twice a day, allowing an optimal extraction of colour and aromas. The Merlot matured for 12 months in second- and third-fill French oak casks. The optimal point of the ripening process was reached by regular racking. This appetizing Lanzerac Merlot has a lot to offer and leaves nothing to be desired. On the nose, it offers concentrated aromas of black fruit, along with sweet notes of vanilla and spicy aromas. The tannins give the wine more complexity, gently underpinning aromas of plums, black cherries, cooked strawberry purée and dark chocolate, finely rounded off by a long, integrated finish. The Lanzerac Merlot goes beautifully with veal chops and portabello mushrooms, gnocchi in a red pepper sauce with crispy pancetta or with a creamy gruyere and parmesan cheese risotto.
