Lanzerac Mrs. English Chardonnay

In 1914, Elizabeth Katherina English bought the Schoongezicht farm and renamed it Lanzerac. In the following years, one of the most modern wineries at that time was created at the Cape. In order to pay tribute to this impressive woman, this wonderful Chardonnay was produced.

The grapes for the Lanzerac Mrs. English Chardonnay come from a single vineyard located in the Jonkershoek valley. The vines are more than 20 years old and are situated 375 metres above sea level. The wine gleams flaxen in the glass and offers citrus aromas on the nose. On the palate, this marvellously complex wine is full-bodied and long-lasting. It was aged in new and used barrels, giving the wine a beautifully clear balance and lots of character. The Mrs. English Chardonnay is wonderfully rounded off by a pre-eminent fruitiness. The wine’s high ageing potential ensures that it will be a genuine delight for the next 10 years.

The Lanzerac Mrs. English Chardonnay is an ideal accompaniment to smoked salmon, white fish, pork or chicken and creamy pasta dishes.

Lanzerac Wine Estate

Product recommendation

Warwick The White Lady Chardonnay

Aaldering Chardonnay Stellenbosch
The Aaldering Chardonnay has an intense bouquet offering notes of peach, lime and mandarin. On the palate, the white wine from the Devon Valley shows a lovely fullness, a creamy juiciness and a prolonged finish as well. This pure varietal Chardonnay consists of three components: the juice delivered by the freshly harvested grapes before they are pressed (‘free run juice’), the part of the wine which was fermented in second-, third- and fourth-fill barrels as well as the must which was aged in stainless steel tanks, making this blend a special taste experience. The Aaldering Chardonnay has a good ageing potential of 5 to 7 years. Enjoy this white wine from the Aaldering estate, which has been successfully producing wines in the Stellenbosch region since 2004, with salmon, lobster, crispy duck or veal. It is also an ideal accompaniment to Middle Eastern cuisine.

Lanzerac Sauvignon Blanc
The Lanzerac Sauvignon Blanc consists of grapes that come from two different vineyards. One of the vineyards is already 19 years old and located 450 metres above sea level. The grapes from these vines give the wine its complexity. The vines that grow in the second vineyard are only 4 years old, giving the wine its freshness. In order to protect the grapes from heat stress, the harvest was carried out early in the morning. After repeated selection in the cellar, the grapes were pressed at a temperature of approximately 57.2 °F. The must remained in contact with the skin for about 6 hours. Subsequently, the wine was fermented at a temperature of 53.6 to 57.2 °F for a period of 10 days. On the nose, the Lanzerac Sauvignon Blanc offers various aromas such as notes of green apple, Asian fruit, pears, white peach and lemon grass. It is soft and creamy on the palate, showing an intense minerality and a surprisingly long finish. Thanks to its vivid acidity, the Lanzerac Sauvignon Blanc goes beautifully with goat’s cheese and seafood salads.

Lanzerac Chardonnay
The grapes for the Lanzerac Chardonnay come from the estate’s various vineyards, of which the oldest are more than 20 years old. The blending of the grapes from the different vineyards has a positive impact on the wines’ complexity. The yield is less than 5 tons per hectare (1 hectare = approx. 2.47 acres). In order to only pick healthy and fully ripe grapes, the harvest was carried out by hand. Subsequently, the grapes were again selected by hand in the cellar. After cutting, the grapes were cooled down to 59 °F and pressed. The wine was fermented in barrels, of which 70% were 300-litre oak casks and 30% were stainless steel tanks. After 9 months, the two batches were blended. The Lanzerac Chardonnay is full-bodied and distinctive, offering aromas of citrus, ginger, vanilla and clover on the nose. On the palate, it shows a noticeable balance between fruit, acidity and softness. The finish is creamy and long-lasting. Thanks to its wonderful complexity, the Lanzerac Chardonnay goes beautifully with smoked salmon, sea bass or paella with seafood.

Lanzerac Pinotage
The grapes for the Lanzerac Pinotage come from vineyards that are located between 400 and 420 metres above sea level. The prevailing wind cools the grapes in hot summers. The soils consist mainly of decomposed granite, enhancing the vines’ deep growth and improving water retention in the soil. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks with regular pumping over, the Lanzerac Pinotage matured for 15 months in first-, second- and third-fill oak casks. At this point, the optimal integration between fruit and wood was completed, resulting in a wine of excellent colour with fragrances of ripe berries and plums. On the palate, the Lanzerac Pinotage is velvety, dense, full-bodied and complex, showing a lovely balance. Aromas of high-quality chocolate and notes of caramel enhance the taste experience along with wonderfully integrated tannins.Enjoy the Lanzerac Pinotage with venison medallions in plum sauce or Asian curry dishes.

Lanzerac Le General 2020
The Lanzerac Le Général is a so-called Bordeaux blend, which could be assigned to the left bank in Bordeaux, i.e. the Médoc region. This style is based on the classic blending of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot varieties. The grapes for this wine come from the estate’s best vineyards located in the Jonkershoek valley in Stellenbosch. The wine matured for 20 months in first- and second-fill French oak casks. Initially, this full-bodied blend offers aromas of vanilla and nutmeg. Subsequently, it pampers the palate with a flood of notes of dark berries, cooked plums and black currants. The palate is complemented by nuances of dark chocolate and hints of smoke, underpinned by powerful, soft tannins and a never-ending finish. The vintage can already be enjoyed now. We recommend decanting the wine before drinking it. Ennjoy the Lanzerac Le General with braised saddle of lamb with fennel and orange or with white chocolate mousse with cherries.
