The MAN Family Wines Skaapveld Syrah from the region Agter-Paarl has a deep claret red. On the nose aromas of licorice. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, with notes of black currants, plums and well integrated tannins. The wine is wonderfully juicy, offering sweet spice and flavors of dried fruits.

The exceptional wine comes from non-irrigated vineyards. Therefore, the grapes show a higher concentration of flavors. The wine matured in American oak barrels (8 percent new).

MAN Family Wines

2001 begannen José Conde und die Brüder Tyrrel und Philip Myburgh gemeinsam Wein zu kreieren. 30 Farmer in der Agter-Paarl Region versorgen das Weingut mit 95% der Trauben. Fast 80% ihrer Anbauflächen werden nicht bewässert, sind eher ertragsarm und bei mehr als der Hälfte handelt es sich um „bush vines“, also Weinreben ohne Drahtrahmen-Erziehung. Ein Zeichen dafür, dass es alte Rebstöcke sind.

Der Name MAN Family Wines hat übrigens eine charmante Geschichte: José Conde und die Brüder Myburgh schildern es so, dass sie ihren Ehefrauen beibringen mussten, dass mit ihrem Traum vom Weingut auch viel Zeit für Privates geopfert werden würde. „Um den Frieden in unseren Familien zu wahren, nahmen wir die Initialen unserer Ehefrauen – so erklärten wir Marie, Anette und Nicky, dass wir an den meisten Wochenenden beschäftigt sein würden. ,Es ist für Euch!‘“

‘The Uprising’ is a wine that was aged for 30 days in rum barrels and is a tribute to Australia’s Rum Rebellion of 1808. As the rum trade was hindered by the government at that time, citizens and soldiers joined together to bring down the government. The ageing in rum barrels gives this wine its dark, jammy body and a finish characterised by notes of warm brown sugar.The grapes for the 19 Crimes ‘The Uprising’ come from selected vineyards that are renowned for their spice and concentration, giving the wine its great intensity and sensational flavour. In the 2019 vintage, the Shiraz grape variety is predominant, giving the wine light notes of raspberries and a fine tannin structure. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes produce lovely blackberry aromas and ensure fullness and structure on the palate. The ‘The Uprising’ is rounded off by a smaller percentage of Grenache, giving the wine its spice and sweet fruitiness. On the nose, the wine offers intense notes of mocha, caramel and baking flavours.Like all wines of the 19 crimes line, ‘The Uprising’ has a history of its own:The man depicted on the label was a member of the Fenian brotherhood from Skibbereen in Ireland who played a major role in the Fenian movement right from the beginning. In 1864, he was arrested, found guilty, sentenced to ten years in prison and deported to Australia.

The Bull Malbec

The Bull is a Malbec from Argentina that is as superb as it gets. It is an ideal accompaniment to well-cooked steaks, but you’ll definitely want more than one glass when enjoying this wine on its own.It is a brilliant deep purple - almost black - in the glass.
