A deep burgundy coloured wine with full force and firm smell somewhat "smoky" with ripe black fruit and gently spiced.

Nice full and smooth taste, spicy with ripe red and black fruits of cherry and blackberry.

Enjoyed the Spier Discocer Pinotage Shiraz with a traditional barbecue, a grill with spicy sausage, lamb or a nice steak.

This South African redwine is a wine to drink immediately but can also easily last for two years.

Spier Wines

Die Spier Wine Farm liegt in der weltberühmten Weinregion Stellenbosch in Südafrika, etwa 50 Kilometer von Kapstadt entfernt. Der Hof hat eine lange Geschichte, die zurückreicht bis ins Jahr 1692. Als einer der ältesten Höfe in der Region ist Spier für seine kapholländischen Giebelhäuser bekannt, eine besondere Form der Architektur. Auf den Ländereien des Weingutes Spier stehen gleich 21 gut erhaltene Häuser. Diese „Gables“ zeugen von den Einflüssen der Gründer aus dem mittelalterlichen Europa und sind eine wahre Attraktion in Südafrika.

Niel Joubert kaufte Spier 1965. Damals war es üblich, Wein für die größeren Genossenschaftskellereien, wie der Stellenbosch Farmers Winery und KWV, zu produzieren. 1971 begann er jedoch mit der Abfüllung seiner eigenen Weinmarken. 1993 ging der Hof in den Besitz von Dick Enthoven über. Unter seiner Führung begann eine umfangreiche Renovierung, um die historischen Gebäude der Farm zu erhalten. Die Wein-Produktion und ein breites Angebot an Freizeitaktivitäten sind heute das Kerngeschäft auf dem Hof. Spier ist in beiden Geschäftsfeldern für seine Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen bekannt.

The grapes for Die Filantroop from Paul Roos come from vines from the Rust en Vrede estate, one of South Africa’s most renowned wineries. The wine is a product of the Paul Roos Farming project (sales of the wines sold under this label go to funding the education of the workers’ children), which is supported by the famous winemaker Augustus Dale, known as Gus, who trained in Burgundy, France, and worked there for many years. This provides the advantage of uniting the viticulture of the Old World with the modern approaches of the New World. This wonderfully structured red wine consists of 69% Shiraz and equal parts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinotage. Its extremely intense bouquet offers aromas of red fruit and light notes of tobacco. The supple but strong tannins are harmoniously integrated.
