Spier Wines

Die Spier Wine Farm liegt in der weltberühmten Weinregion Stellenbosch in Südafrika, etwa 50 Kilometer von Kapstadt entfernt. Der Hof hat eine lange Geschichte, die zurückreicht bis ins Jahr 1692. Als einer der ältesten Höfe in der Region ist Spier für seine kapholländischen Giebelhäuser bekannt, eine besondere Form der Architektur. Auf den Ländereien des Weingutes Spier stehen gleich 21 gut erhaltene Häuser. Diese „Gables“ zeugen von den Einflüssen der Gründer aus dem mittelalterlichen Europa und sind eine wahre Attraktion in Südafrika.

Niel Joubert kaufte Spier 1965. Damals war es üblich, Wein für die größeren Genossenschaftskellereien, wie der Stellenbosch Farmers Winery und KWV, zu produzieren. 1971 begann er jedoch mit der Abfüllung seiner eigenen Weinmarken. 1993 ging der Hof in den Besitz von Dick Enthoven über. Unter seiner Führung begann eine umfangreiche Renovierung, um die historischen Gebäude der Farm zu erhalten. Die Wein-Produktion und ein breites Angebot an Freizeitaktivitäten sind heute das Kerngeschäft auf dem Hof. Spier ist in beiden Geschäftsfeldern für seine Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen bekannt.

On the nose, the Spier Signature Chardonnay Pinot Noir Rose offers stimulating notes of strawberries and yellow apple. It is wonderfully fresh on the palate, with a marvellously crisp acidity.This rosé from South Africa comes from the Western Cape region. This blend has a slightly higher percentage of Chardonnay than Pinot Noir.It was aged in stainless steel tanks and goes beautifully with salads with seafood or smoked salmon.

Oude Kaap Rosé

The Blanc de Noir Rose is the rosewine of the Oude Kaap. This wine is made because the demand for Rose is back in the lift. The wine is made from a blue grape variety, the Pinotage.The light pink color is achieved by having the juice very briefly in contact with the skins, therefore giving it only a bit of it's color.It is a dry Rose, but certainly not a tight dry wine. The fruit, especially with characteristics of strawberry and raspberry, remains in the soft finish. Delicious fresh and soft wine that certainly does great as a summer fruity thirst quencher.Im Winter empfehlen wir den Oude Kaap Rosé als Basiswein für die Zubereitung von Rosé-Glühwein.
