Als das katalanische Paar Mario Rotllant und Carmen Daurella Ende der 80er Jahre in die Rioja kamen, erkannten beide, dass noch immer Potenzial in den Weinbergen dieser Region steckte ? nicht nur für bessere Weine, sondern für die Besten.

Die Bodegas Roda entstand im berüchtigten Bahnhofsviertel von Haro und hat vom ersten Moment an dem Wort Qualität eine neue Dimension verliehen. Mario Rotllant kaufte insgesamt 21 Pazellen mit einer Gesamtrebfläche von über 150 Hektar in den besten Lagen der Rioja Alta und Alavesa.

Man legte sich ein Expertenteam um den erfolgreichen Weinbauprofessor Santolaya zu. In jeder Phase der Weinbereitung greift man auf hoch qualifizierte Weinexperten und Akademiker zurück. Die Trauben werden so sorgfältig wie möglich verarbeitet. Roda verzichtet auf Pumpen für das Umlagern von Trauben oder Weinen. Die Moste vergären in großen Holzbottichen aus französischer Eiche, von denen Roda genau 17 besitzt. Diese Menge an Tiñas (span. = Holzfass) erlaubt es, jede einzeln gelesene Parzelle auch separat zu vergären. Nach 12 Monaten im Barrique, kontinuierlichem Verkosten und akribischer Beobachtung der Weine, werden erstmals die Weine entsprechend ihren Charakteristiken assembliert (verschnitten).

Nach der Assemblage lagern die Weine für weitere 4 Monate in Barriques, bevor Sie schließlich abgefüllt werden. In der Flasche reifen die Weine dann weitere 20 bis 24 Monate bis Sie in den Verkauf kommen. Der Anspruch von Roda ist es, Weine auf den Markt zu bringen, die bereits trinkreif sind, jedoch für 10 Jahre und mehr gelagert werden können!

Roda Sela
The Roda Sela has a deep, red colour with bluish red hues throughout.In the nose there is a very expressive red fruit bouquet, especially ripe red cherry, with a nutty edge reminiscent of almonds and broken cherry bones. The wine is medium bodied, with scant presence of the oak adding to the feeling of lightness and freshness it provides.On the palate it is silky smooth, medium bodied, very fresh, well textured with no troughs. The oak is hardly evident, with round, well integrated tannins, giving way to a lingering finish of seasoned red fruits that make it light and fresh.  In this case Iadding youth and freshness to the depth and ripeness of the seasoned fruit so prevalent in this vintage.

With the Cerro Anon Reserva, the Bodegas Olarra estate demonstrates how impressive a Reserva wine from the Rioja region in Spain can be. The wine is an impressively brilliant crimson in colour and offers an extraordinary abundance of aromas on the nose. Floral notes of violets and roses unite with nuances of bilberries and blackberries. An excellent vintage in the wine-growing region of Rioja and an outstanding Roda wine. This blend, consisting of  93% Tempranillo, a 3% of Graciano and a 4% of Garnacha, has a wonderful bouquet offering notes of sweet cherries, black fruit and nuances of Mediterranean herbs, complemented by perfectly integrated oak aromas. On the palate, the deep red Roda DOC Reserva is sumptuous and full-bodied. Initially, the wine is very fruity, showing an enormous balance and fine tannins. Its finish is once again characterised by a great, fresh fruitiness.The grapes come from bush vines that are more than 30 years old. These vines are cultivated without wire trellis training systems. The wine matured for 14 months in barriques, of which 40% were new and 60% were second-fill barrels. Afterwards, it was aged for another 30 months in the bottle. Luis Gutierrez writes in the Wine Advocate: ‘This wine has the potential to become a real bestseller.’You’ll want to discover the Toda DOC Reserva with moderate or hearty stews with chicken or beef, for example. This wine is an exemplary Rioja.

Der Barón de Ley Gran Reserva stammt aus der Region Rioja aus Spanien. Diesen Wein vom Weingut Barón de Ley zeichnet seine schöne aromatische Intensität und seinen sanften Charakter aus. This is the first appearance on the market of the great wine CORIMBO I. It is 100% “Tinta del País”, aged for 16 months in French and American oak barrels.Dark, deep and intense in colour, with a cherry-red rim. On the nose, it is heady but elegant and pleasant, with plenty of ripe black fruit such as plum and blackberry. In addition, mineral hints and quality sweet spices combine with black chocolate, ripe fruit and plum kernel.On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, with a powerful and refreshing back taste of medicinal herbs and pine. Top quality tannin with an excellent finish of very ripe black fruit, cocoa and fresh herbal hints. Bodegas RODA has diversified into Ribera del Duero. After twenty years’ experience in D.O.Ca Rioja, RODA wanted to apply its knowledge and experience to a diversification into D.O. Ribera del Duero, creating Bodegas LA HORRA. Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC
This wine shows an excellent fullness, majestic aromas and an outstanding balance among all components, giving it ideal potential for prolonged ageing. The Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a sensational masterpiece of taste and fragrance. The Amarone has an impressive elegance, ripe fruit and an inviting bouquet. It is ruby-red in colour and shows fine hints of aromatic herbs. On the palate, the wine is impressively powerful, with warm, rich nuances of wild cherry and chocolate. The Amarone is a little jewel in the range of Zenato wines. It is made of the excellent Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta and Croatina grapes, which come from the Valpolicella Classico region from the municipalities of Sant'Ambrogio, Negrar, Pedemonte, Fumane, San Pietro in Cariano and Marano. The grapes are harvested and picked by hand and subsequently dried for a period of three months. As a consequence, much of the liquid evaporates, resulting in berries that are extremely rich in sugar. After fermentation, the wine matured for 30 months in oak casks and for a further 12 months in the bottle.
