Francis Ford Coppola Director's Cut Cabernet Sauvignon

The Francis Ford Coppola Director's Cut Cabernet Sauvignon is an outstanding - or the Americans would say "outstanding" - wine from the Sonoma Valley. The director created "very big Hollywood" with this grape juice, with small amounts of Petit Verdot and Merlot Cabernet Franc, among others, also playing a part as extras.

Coppola places particular emphasis on the subtleties here, as befits a director's cut. Particularly gentle fermentation, 15 months of ageing in French and American oak barrels and precise selection of the grapes according to the respective plots are the special effects used here by Coppola and his oenologist Cory Beck.

The result is a powerful epic, with blackcurrants, cigar box, plums and black cherries on the nose. The opulent and full-bodied palate shows plenty of red and black berry fruit, tobacco, leather and vanilla. The finish is long-lasting and worthy of an exciting showdown.

Overall, this dry red wine from the USA is a well-rounded, fruity wine with plenty of complexity, making it ideal as a solo wine. It benefits from 1 to 2 hours of decanting and will remain at the peak of drinking maturity for several years.

Der US-Amerikaner Francis Ford Coppola ist vielen als erfolgreicher Regisseur und Produzent bekannt. Er führte Regie bei berühmten Klassikern wie „Der Pate“ und „Apocalypse Now“ und zählt heute zu den bedeutendsten Filmschaffenden des US-amerikanischen Kinos.

In Geyserville in Kalifornien betreibt Francis Ford Coppola sein Weingut. Die Kulisse seines unweit von Hollywood gelegenen Anwesens erinnert in vielerlei Hinsicht an seine effektvollen Filme. Die Weinherstellung hat in der Familie Coppola Tradition. Bereits sein Großvater produzierte im Keller seiner New Yorker Wohnung Wein aus kalifornischen Trauben. 1979 erwarb Francis Ford Coppola den ersten Teil des Weingutes Inglenook in Kalifornien. 1995 kaufte er die verbliebenen Teile des Anwesens und baut seitdem hauptsächlich die Rebsorte Cabernet Sauvignon an.

2007 erweiterte Francis Ford Coppola sein Weingut um das Château Sovereign im Sonoma Valley. Dort werden von seinem Winemaker Corey Beck unter anderem die Weinserien „Diamond Collection" und „Director‘s Cut" produziert. Beste Weinbau-Bedingungen bieten Coppola das zuverlässig warme Klima in Kalifornien und die vielseitigen Anbauflächen auf vulkanischen Böden, Schwemmland-Böden oder auch sehr steinigen Lehmböden.

53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot machen ein klassisches linke-Ufer Cuvée aus, wobei der Cabernet Sauvignon dafür sorgen wird, dass der Wein durchaus etwas Kellerreifung vertragen kann. This wine has a deep dark inky garnet colour with a touch of red brick evident on the rim. This is an intensely complex wine with intense dark berry fruit and crème de cassis notes on the nose. There is an inky heady dark character on the nose reminiscent of dark chocolate, cardamom spice and roasted fennel bulb.
