The Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Cut Cabernet Sauvignon is, as the Americans would say, an outstanding wine from the Sonoma Valley. With this wine, the ‘director’ created ‘Hollywood at its finest’, in which small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot join in as extras.

Coppola puts special emphasis on those little things worthy of a Director’s Cut. A special, careful fermentation, 15 months of ageing in French and American oak casks and a meticulous selection of the grapes in each plot are the ‘special effects’ used by Coppola and his oenologist Cory Beck.

The result is a powerful ‘epic’, offering aromas of black currants, plums and black cherries as well as notes of cigar-box on the nose. The wine is opulent and well-defined on the palate, showing lots of red and black fruit and notes of tobacco, leather and vanilla. Its finish is long-lasting and worthy of a ‘thrilling showdown’.

All in all, the Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Cut Cabernet Sauvignon is a round and fruity delight, with lots of complexity, making this wine perfect to enjoy on its own. We recommend decanting the wine 1-2 hours before drinking it. It will remain at the peak of its maturity for the next several years.

Der US-Amerikaner Francis Ford Coppola ist vielen als erfolgreicher Regisseur und Produzent bekannt. Er führte Regie bei berühmten Klassikern wie „Der Pate“ und „Apocalypse Now“ und zählt heute zu den bedeutendsten Filmschaffenden des US-amerikanischen Kinos.

In Geyserville in Kalifornien betreibt Francis Ford Coppola sein Weingut. Die Kulisse seines unweit von Hollywood gelegenen Anwesens erinnert in vielerlei Hinsicht an seine effektvollen Filme. Die Weinherstellung hat in der Familie Coppola Tradition. Bereits sein Großvater produzierte im Keller seiner New Yorker Wohnung Wein aus kalifornischen Trauben. 1979 erwarb Francis Ford Coppola den ersten Teil des Weingutes Inglenook in Kalifornien. 1995 kaufte er die verbliebenen Teile des Anwesens und baut seitdem hauptsächlich die Rebsorte Cabernet Sauvignon an.

2007 erweiterte Francis Ford Coppola sein Weingut um das Château Sovereign im Sonoma Valley. Dort werden von seinem Winemaker Corey Beck unter anderem die Weinserien „Diamond Collection" und „Director‘s Cut" produziert. Beste Weinbau-Bedingungen bieten Coppola das zuverlässig warme Klima in Kalifornien und die vielseitigen Anbauflächen auf vulkanischen Böden, Schwemmland-Böden oder auch sehr steinigen Lehmböden.

53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot machen ein klassisches linke-Ufer Cuvée aus, wobei der Cabernet Sauvignon dafür sorgen wird, dass der Wein durchaus etwas Kellerreifung vertragen kann. In jedem Falle sollte der Wein vor dem Genuss atmen können, je nach Geschmack sollte 1-2 Stunden vorher auch dekantiert werden.Der Château Belgrave zeigt ein sattes, dunkles Granat. Die Cabernet-Nase ist komplex und würzig-pfefferig, am Gaumen satte Frucht mit viel schwarzbeeriger Aromatik. Die Tannine sind wuchtig und klassisch Bordeaux-präsent, ohne aber zu überfordern. Eine sehr gute Struktur und ein langer Abgang imponieren und verdeutlichen, dass der Wein gut und gerne noch 20-30 Jahre auf dem Höhepunkt sein kann.Lamm, rotes Fleisch, Wild, Steak, Ente oder Hartkäse begleiten diesen Ausnahme-Haut-Médoc besonders gut. This wine has a deep dark inky garnet colour with a touch of red brick evident on the rim. This is an intensely complex wine with intense dark berry fruit and crème de cassis notes on the nose. There is an inky heady dark character on the nose reminiscent of dark chocolate, cardamom spice and roasted fennel bulb. Always evident on this wine and a hallmark of every vintage is the hint of Eucalyptus or mint. The palate is full and rich mirroring most of what is evident on the nose. Displaying cocoa, mocha notes ripe berry fruits and a spicy grip. The tannins are broad and textured and leave the wine with a dry finish as well as there being a certain amount of freshness which results in the wine lingering on and on.Food pairing: Veal Osso Bucco or Grilled fillet steak served with red wine sauce, bone marrow, shallots and French fries.

Francis Ford Coppola Director's Cut Zinfandel

Made with fruit grown entirely in the Dry Creek Valley appellation, where the combination of climate and location produces excellent Zinfandel fruit with intensely concentrated flavor. Half of the fruit was crushed whole, and the must (seeds and skins) was fermented in open-top fermentors for maximum color extraction and flavor enhancement. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels for twelve months, creating a wine with deep, rich layers of blueberries, raspberries, dark chocolate and mint, along with a lingering vanilla caramel finish.Delicious with soup, pork and spicey dishes.
