Napa Cellars Chardonnay

This high-quality Chardonnay from the Napa Valley is redolent of vanilla, caramel and honeydew melon, along with nuances of freshly baked apple pie. This white wine comes from coastal vineyards. It is very soft on the palate, with a balanced acidity and a rather creamy finish. The interplay of aromas recalls marshmallows roasted over a campfire.

The Napa Cellars Chardonnay comes from vineyards located in the southern Napa Valley and Carneros that provide ideal conditions for the Chardonnay grapes. The fogs and cool winds from the San Francisco Bay and Marin allow the grapes to ripen longer, thus developing their special depth of aroma and crisp acidity. This white wine matured for eight months in oak casks, of which more than 90 per cent were French barrels (Almost 25% of them were new barrels.).

Napa Cellars

Als 1968 im Napa Valley in Kalifornien, USA, ein Großteil der ansässigen Winzer das Gebiet als „schützenswert und zur landwirtschaftlichen Erhaltung“ erklärten, gründete Charlie R. Woods das Weingut Napa Cellars. Die Anfänge beruhten auf vergleichsweise kleinem Terrain. Es waren nur fünfeinhalb Hektar auf allerdings wunderbarem Oakville-Boden. In den 1970er Jahren baute er das Weingut aus und konzentrierte sich auf die Herstellung von Rotweinen, insbesondere Zinfandel und Cabernet Sauvignon.

Die Besitzverhältnisse wechselten in den Jahren danach einige Male, bis schließlich das Weingut 1996 von Koerner Rombauer und Rich Frank gekauft wurde.

Winemaker bei Napa Cellars ist Joe Shirley, der im Napa Valley aufgewachsen ist. Nach verschiedenen Studienaufenthalten und Abschlüssen, unter anderem einem Bachelor of Arts in Physiologie, entdeckte er nach eigenen Angaben die Liebe zum Wein – bei einem Grillabend. Er schwenkte um, studierte Weinkunde an der University of California, Davis, und arbeitete bei verschiedenen Weingüteren wie Trinchero Napa Wines. Im Jahr 2007 nahm Joe die Position als Chefwinzer bei Napa Cellars an.

Heute produziert Napa Cellars unter seiner Anweisung rund 120.000 Flaschen Wein feinsten Chardonnay, Merlot und – na klar – Zinfandel.

This high quality Chardonnay from California matured for nine months in barriques.
