Klug und bedächtig wählt Winemaker Nicki Pruss das beste Lesegut der verschiedenen Napa-Valley- Lagen und vermählt es gekonnt mit den Trauben des eigenen Fay-Weinbergs im Stag’s Leap District zu diesem einzigartigen Cabernet-Sauvignon-Blend: mit der Tiefe, Struktur und Eleganz der limitierten Einzellagenweine des Weinguts und zugleich geprägt vom individuellen Charakter der einzelnen Napa-Valley-Weinberge, die Artemis um so unendlich viele, oft kleinste Facetten bereichern.

Die Trauben werden separat vergoren, die Weine dann zum Artemis Final Blend vermählt. Der Stags Leap Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis reift 18 Monate in Barriques aus französischer Eiche (55 % neu), wird dann abgefüllt und weitere sechs Monate auf der Flasche gelagert, bevor man ihn schließlich für den Handel freigibt.

Im Glas zeigt sich der Artemis in einem tiefdunklem, dichten Pflaumenrot mit rubinroten Glanzlichtern. Der amerikanische Rotwein bezaubert mit einem klassischen Cabernet-Bouquet von saftig gereiften schwarzen Johannisbeeren, Brombeeren und Schwarzkirschen, unterlegt mit erdigen Noten von Moos und Waldboden, Leder, Zeder, Kräutern (Rosmarin), Lakritz, Mokka, Vanille und Karamell. Am Gaumen ist der Wein kraftvoll, intensiv und fest strukturiert, doch mit der klassischen Eleganz von Stag’s Leap. Der individuelle und ausdrucksstarke Cabernet Sauvignon besitzt einen mittleren Körper und ist im Finale lang und harmonisch ausgewogen mit würzigem Nachhall von schwarzen Johannisbeeren, Schwarzteeblättern, Mokka und Lakritz.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Das Napa-Valley ist die Weinbauregion Kaliforniens. Es hat sich seine berühmten Namen gemacht durch die Produktion außergewöhnlicher Cabernet Sauvignon. Auch das Weingut Stag's Leap gehört in den illustren Kreis der Produzenten ganz besonderer Cabernet Sauvignon Weine. Im Jahre 1893 wurde das Weingut gegründet und seit 1970 befand es sich in den Händen von Warren und Barbara Winiarski. Bereits 1976 sorgten die Weine von Stag's Leap bei der berühmten Blindverkostung in Paris für ungeheures Aufsehen, als sie sofort erste Plätze eroberten. Der Cabernet Sauvignon, der seinerzeit siegte, wuchs auf noch nicht einmal 4 Jahre alten Weinbergen. Stags Leap steht für außergewöhnliche und qualitativ hochwertige Spitzen-Weine. Das Weingut gehört, besonders beim Cabernet Sauvignon, zur Weltspitze. Bei der Blindprobe 2005 bestätigte Stag's Leap seine Position.

Im August 2007 verkaufte Winiarski das Weingut. Der Tabak und Lebensmittelkonzern Altria besitzt heute rund die Hälfte des erfolgreichen Weingutes, was der Qualität keinen Abbruch tat. Schließlich blieb die erfolgreiche Mannschaft bei Stag's Leap zusammen. Der Arcadia-Weinberg ist heute noch im Besitz der Familie Winiarski und auf Vertragsbasis produzieren sie weiterhin Wein.

The Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is an exceptional wine in every respect. With each vintage of the acclaimed Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, the Beringer winemaker chooses the best lots from his reserve vineyards in the Napa Valley, each of which demonstrate remarkable expression of terroir. The wine is full of aromas of wild flowers and lavender. It is multi-dimensional and layered on the palate, offering enticing aromas of juicy blackberries, boysenberries and smoke, along with notes of tobacco, a little graphite and lots of baking spices. Notes of brown spice and sweet mint are profound in the glass. Dense and well-structured, its supple tannins are complemented by notes of espresso, mocha and balanced with a silky and elegant finish. The winery describes the 2014 vintage as follows: ‘2014 was a dream vintage for the Napa Valley along the lines of the recent outstanding vintages of 2012 and 2013. Although California’s drought brought another dry winter, the growing season started with a warm, dry spring and relatively early bud break. Summer was mild and consistent with even, warm temperatures throughout. The overall outstanding quality and fruit characteristics in this vintage will make Cabernet Sauvignon the highlight of the season.’The wine was aged in hand-selected, custom-toasted barrels of new French Nevers oak (100% new). Each lot was aged for 20 months before selection of the final blend to allow each vineyard to express the depth of its unique terroir. The wine can already be enjoyed now but will probably have a longevity of more than 30 years. Robert Parker awarded the Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 97 points.

Made with fruit grown entirely in the Dry Creek Valley appellation, where the combination of climate and location produces excellent Zinfandel fruit with intensely concentrated flavor.
